Corner Ville

So next to Massey Drive is a very large cliff and in order to get up on it you have to hike this real cool trail. It took a little while to find the trail but once we found it we were at the top within 10 minutes. This is the view!

Man in the Mountain

So a few nights ago I had some time to kill, so I jumped on the quad and burned up to the atlantic ready mix quarry. From there I had a good view of the TCH, Riverside drive, and the North Shore highway. This is a 6 minute exposure.

Vanessa and Tyson

So here is a short preview of my first wedding video. Its a bit different from skateboarding and snowboarding but still a lot of fun to shoot. I used 3 cameras on this video including a Sony hdrfx7, canon 5d mk ii, and a canon t1i. I used a track dolly that I made for a few shots but mostly used a tripod or handheld. Check it out!

*oh yeah, it took Tyson about 20 tries for that kickflip. Congrats guys!

Bottle Poppin!

So found my pellet gun and thought it would be cool to try and get some photos of the pellet leaving the barrel. Not as easy as I thought! Even for a pellet gun, they shoot really fast. Figured I would have better luck trying to get a glass bottle breaking so I set up a few empty beers. Dont worry, I picked up all the glass.

Black and White

Shooting black and white film kind of made me a little skeptic of my digital photos. I find myself converting many of my shots now into B/W just to see how it looks. What do you think of these?

Gros Morne 2

Had 2 friends travel up to Gros Morne last week for a camping trip. They were coming from St Johns so I decided to go up saturday night and meet up for a beer. I stayed at another friends cabin and we did the whole labor day / long weekend thing. We checked out this spot called Western Brook Beach (I think) and I managed to get a couple shots of a few small birds and after talking to my friend Scott Grant about them I learned that they were Sanderlings. Here is a few shots of them!

On the way back to the cabin the sun was going down and we see a Moose with 2 young about 100 feet from the highway. I jumped out of the car and snuck up through the grass.

Red Clouds

This was the sunset 2 days ago, looked real nice but the low dark clouds were coming in!

Red Cloud

Rusty Gates

So we do a lot of skating at Nate's place. He has a pretty sweet set up including a 14 foot flat box, 8 foot box, flat bar and a perfect mini ramp. Around the side of the house is this old rusty gate that we thought was impossible to grind, but Phil Dawe managed to get a few shots on it. 15 minutes into the session Phil breaks his board! More to come!

Salt Water is Pretty Cool!

I been wanting to go out shooting in the rain a lot lately so last week so my friends and I jumped in the car and drove down to Cox's Cove. By the time we got there it was dark and raining, but we still walked down the old boardwalk and down the steepest stairs to the beach. It was low tide and everything was slippery! Here are 2 shots I got!

Burgeo, Newfoundland

Yesterday at around 2:30pm me and a few friends pack up a honda civic and head for the south coast of newfoundland! After about a 2 1/2 hour drive we arrive at our hotel in Burgeo. We drop off some backs, pack up our camera equipment and head for the closest corner store for a fresh 8 pack of Black Horse. We get out of the car and start our walk along the sandy beaches towards an old cemetery.

Entrance to old cemetery

This cemetery is like 30 feet from the water, it is slowly getting buried by sand and vegetation.

And this could be one of my favourite photos that I have taken! hope you like it!

First Shot!

Yesterday, after work I went over to Nate's house for a couple beers and a skate. He got a 14 foot flat box and a 8 foot flat bar. His driveway is so smooth and the beers stay cold. Don't think that its all good tho because when the flies come out they are RUTHLESS! Check out this photo of Nate I snapped off last night, I really like the colour of the sky and the lights in the garage!

After 2 weeks of debating, 1 week of committing, and a hell of alot of waiting, my new 5d mark ii finally shows up! Along with a battery grip and extra battery. I only have 2 lens for it tho, a 1.8 50mm and a 70 - 200mm f4. I will still keep my t1i for a back up body and for fisheye shots! Took this photo with my blackberry. I know it looks like crap but an iphone is next on the list!

Brutal Beach

So it all started off with an idea to take an old walking trail down to a beach and snap some shots of the mill and CB. We start our hike in Irish Town and with out sneakers and backpacks we venture down the old boardwalk and into the woods! After 20 min the boardwalk turns into marsh and bog, the trail no longer exists and we decide to bushwack the rest of the way to the beach. Bad idea! It starts to get dark and we are running out of energy but we think that we are close and push onward. I take over leading the pack and not long after that I find a little quad trail that ran the whole way with us just 20 feet to our left. We get on the quad trail swearing and cursing, covered in mud, ripped up legs and arms and destroyed from the flies we keep going towards the beach. 5 minutes pass and we can finally see the beach through the brush and we bump into an old man on the trail, who is driving a legit personal tank from vietnam used to bring supplies into the jungle. We explain to the man that we want to take some photos from the beach but he quickly replies that its high tide and were not going to be able to get to the beach. Then proceeds to tell us that he has a trike in the trail aways and we can drive it out for him. This is music to our ears. We say thank you and keep hiking to the beach. The last bit of the trail was all mud and stinger needles, and when we finally get to the water we realize that the man was right. We couldn't get to the beach because it was completely surrounded by water. We still snap a few shots off but I never got what I wanted.

brutal beach
- the beach in this photo was the one I wanted to be on.

We turn around and head for the trike, back tracking through the mud and stinger needles. With our shoes ruined, clothes covered in mud, arms and legs ripped to pieces and covered in bug bites we get to the little honda 125cc trike and first pull she goes!! With 3 of us sitting on the little trike with no exhaust bombing out this mini trail it takes about 20 min to get back to Irish Town. Trikes are tippy!!

Here are some of jodies photos from the adventure!
